The Different Types of Dental Fillings

Composite Resin Fillings

These fillings are durable and can handle the pressure of chewing well. They also look very natural and can be matched to the color of your teeth, so they blend in easily with your smile.

Porcelain Fillings

These are incredibly natural looking and durable as well. They are a very aesthetic option that blends nicely with your natural teeth. They are also stain-resistant and color-matched to the surrounding teeth.

The Dental Filling Procedure

After a tooth has been damaged by decay or trauma, it must be filled to restore its function and appearance. The dentist will first remove the decayed portion of the tooth using a unique tool called an explorer. Next, they will fill the remaining portion of your tooth with a filling material such as composite resin, porcelain, or a glass ionomer. The material will be shaped to fit the available space and restore the tooth to its original shape and size.

Some patients may require a crown after getting a cavity filled. This is because even though the tooth is filled, it can still be vulnerable to additional damage or breakage if the cavity is very large. A dental crown provides added strength to the visible portion of your tooth. It will also help to restore the shape of your natural smile.

Regular visits to the dentist are the best way to identify and treat cavities early. If you haven’t had a checkup in more than six months or you need to make an appointment for a filling, call (303) 973-1112 or visit Blue Sage Dental at 10354 W Chatfield Ave #100, Littleton, CO 80127.
