The Procedure for Dental Crowns

A crown is a custom-made type of restoration that fits over your existing tooth structure like a cap. A crown restores the strength and appearance of a tooth that has been damaged by tooth decay or trauma and is at risk of breaking. It also improves the appearance of teeth that are broken, worn down, or discolored.

The dentist will prepare your tooth for the dental crown by removing some of the enamel to accommodate the crown. Once your tooth is prepared, an impression will be made and sent to a lab where your crown will be created. During your next visit, we will fit and place your permanent crown. Your new crown will restore full function to your tooth and protect it from further damage.

After your crown is in place, you can care for it the same way you care for your natural teeth with regular brushing, flossing, and visiting our dentist for routine visits twice a year.
